Meet the coaches

Great coaching starts with genuinely caring about the person in front of you.

Our coaching team brings together years of CrossFit, strength and conditioning experience, but knowledge is only part of what makes a great coach.

At Node, we’re here to teach, encourage and challenge you at the right level. We’ll help you understand the movements, get the most from your training and keep progressing, whether you’re learning your first squat or chasing your next PB!

Most importantly, we want to know you. Your goals, your wins, what you’re struggling with and what keeps you coming back.

Because at Node, you’re never just another person in the class.

Meet the team behind your training.

Joe

Joe

Gym Manager/Head Coach

Joe has been coaching in one form or another for over 15 years. His coaching career began with a focus on sports science and athlete development, completing both an undergraduate degree in Sport Science and a Master’s degree in Strength & Conditioning at Northumbria University.

Alongside this Joe discovered CrossFit, and with it, his passion for coaching really began to evolve.

Over the years, he’s gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, working with everyone from high-level athletes to complete beginners. But the biggest thing he’s learned is that none of that matters unless you genuinely care about the people you’re coaching.

The little wins. The big PBs. The days when training feels amazing, and the days when simply getting through the door is a win. It’s about understanding what people are working towards, knowing the person behind the athlete, and being genuinely invested in their journey.

For Joe, that’s what great coaching is about, and it’s something he wants to sit right at the heart of Node.

Damiano

Damiano

Coach

Dami's a PE teacher who ended up falling head over heels for coaching outside the classroom too. He's CrossFit Level 2, British Weightlifting Level 2, and British Gymnastics Level 1 qualified, with a couple of years coaching gymnastics and over five years coaching CrossFit now under his belt.

Give him a barbell and a clean and jerk to work on and he's a happy man, it's hands down his favourite lift! Less happy? Put him on a rower or ask him to deadlift, and you might hear a bit of groaning. He's the first to admit ergs and deadlifts are where his own training needs the most work, which probably makes him a better coach for anyone else in the same boat.

At the end of the day, Dami just loves sport, watching it, playing it, coaching it; and gymnastics still holds a soft spot for him. Whatever you're working on, he's genuinely invested in helping you get there!

Ian

Ian

Coach

Helping people improve has always been Ian’s passion. Whether that’s through his 25 years as a teacher and a football coach or since staring his CrossFit coaching journey over 3 years ago.

Having played football semi professionally for over 20 years, Ian brings experience and knowledge of competing at a high standard along with his love for seeing every member improve, regardless of their ability level.

One of the longest standing members of the gym, Ian has a passion around knowing everyone and making sure each member gets the experience they deserve. Whether it’s coaching class or Ian’s classic Sunday ‘Throwdowns’ you will always see him about and helping others to improve.

He lives by the quote ‘1% better everyday’ and rest assured he’ll make sure you do that every time you step into his class or train alongside him.

Andy

Andy

Coach

Andy has been doing CrossFit for over seven years and has recently made the jump from member to coach at CrossFit Node!

He’s always loved the mix of training that CrossFit brings, with weightlifting and gymnastics being firm favourites. Give him a barbell or something to hang from and he’s happy. Give him double dumbbells and the enthusiasm drops off fairly quickly!

After getting so much from the CrossFit community over the years, coaching felt like the right next step. For Andy, it’s about giving something back to the community that has given him so much, while helping other people enjoy their training and reach goals that might once have felt out of reach.

Whether it’s helping someone improve a lift, finally crack a gymnastics movement or simply gain confidence in the gym, Andy loves seeing people make progress and surprise themselves with what they can do.

Away from CrossFit, Andy comes from a rugby background and is now semi-retired from the pitch. Apparently needing another hobby that involves throwing himself around, he has since taken up BMX racing!

Andy sees that coaching is all about creating a supportive environment, helping people enjoy their training and seeing members achieve things they once thought were out of reach.
